Strong families don’t have to do life alone.
This week’s Building Stronger Communities explored how connection, support and community can help families navigate challenges, build resilience and create opportunities for the future.
Throughout the morning we heard inspiring stories from people making a difference in Western Sydney, proving that stronger communities often begin with one conversation, one opportunity or one simple act of kindness.
🎙️ Michelle’s Reflection
☕ Are We Losing the Habit of Connection?
Michelle reflected on something many of us have noticed.
Years ago, dropping in on family or neighbours for a cup of tea was simply part of life. Today our calendars are fuller than ever, yet many people feel more isolated.
Perhaps strengthening our communities isn’t always about creating something new.
Sometimes it’s about rediscovering something we’ve forgotten…

What makes families strong isn’t what they look like…
It’s knowing where support exists and being willing to reach out before problems become crises.

🚶♀️ Dajana Simic – Mums Let’s Walk
This week’s Community Champion was Dajana Simic.

After experiencing mental health challenges, years of IVF and eventually welcoming her rainbow baby, Freya, Dajana recognised how isolating early motherhood can sometimes feel.
Instead of waiting for connection…
She created it.
Mums Let’s Walk now brings mums and their little ones together through regular walks where conversation, friendship and support happen naturally.
A wonderful example of how one simple idea can strengthen an entire community.

🧡 Closing Conversation
Michelle, Piper and Bethanie wrapped up the morning discussing family traditions through sport—including a little friendly AFL rivalry before the GWS Giants derby.
Whether families support the same team or different ones, traditions like watching sport together help create memories, conversations and connection.
Sometimes it’s not about who wins…
It’s simply about spending time together.
💙 This Week’s Message
Strong families don’t have to be perfect—they simply need connection. When communities create opportunities for people to belong, families become stronger. And as families grow stronger, our communities thrive alongside them.
